Plate 11 was first used to print red stamps (29 January 1841), then black stamps (1 February 1841), reverting to red stamps (3 February 1841).

It should, therefore, be regarded as a “red” plate from which a small number of black stamps were printed, but because black stamps were printed from it, convention dictates that it is regarded as a “black” plate.

Printing in Black

Plate 11 was put to press on 1 February 1841 and a mere 700 sheets were printed from it.

The earliest recorded usage is 4 February 1841.
